Keeping On Top Of Vaccinations, Flea and Tick Treatments While Abroad

As we have now been away for over a year, Scrappy needed to have a rabies booster vaccination.

We were in Jersey at the time it was needed so we took him to the local vets to get it done and he is now signed off for three more years.

Some countries require you to have had the vaccination within the previous year so we may have to get another booster before this one runs out – it will depend on where we end up going!

It was much easier than I thought it would be to go to a vet that wasn’t our own.

They needed to register him to go on their system before his appointment.

The Vet in Jersey gave him a checkup and checked all his vitals before giving him the jab. We were also given a print out of their notes so we can keep his file updated, pass them onto our Vets at home and take them along to any future vet visits elsewhere.

Before we left the UK, we bought a years supply of flea, tick and worming treatments that we could administer ourselves on the trip.

I have a spread in my diary with space to put the dates of when he has had his various tablets and vaccinations which helps me keep on top of when they’re due. I also stick his Milpro and Bravecto tablets in their packets to the top of his food box with the dates they’re due written on them to remind me too!

When it’s time for a tablet, I just add it to his food or give it to him at the same time as a Scooby Snack! He has always been pretty good at taking any tablets he’s needed so they go down without much trouble (but I always check just to make sure!)

The spread I made in my diary to keep track of everything Scrappy related!

We have visited various Vets since we left over three years ago and they have all been very helpful and wanting the best for Scrappy which is all any pet owner wants. It’s easier than you might think.
