SOme extra points
- This marina was only an overnight stop for us on our way South so we didn’t use any of the facilities other than a berth for the night (which wasn’t even a proper berth!) It was so busy in here that we ended up rafted next to another boat and had to jump to shore off the back of our boat to the pontoon!
- You need to radio ahead on VHF 21 to Traffic Centre Scheveningen to get permission to enter and depart through the narrow passage as you enter the outer harbour on arrival and also once you leave the marina when you depart. There is a lot of commercial traffic around that takes priority as there is only a small area to manoeuvre in for the large ships. (It’s pretty big when you’re only little though like us!)
- Don’t enter the marina and find a berth yourself here – wait for the harbour master to come to you to show you where to go (after you have passed through the narrow entrance channel).
- We went to a restaurant called “Burgerz” (which is at the opposite end to the marina) as we were both starving after the sail. We both decided to order the burger with blue cheese on. DON’T ORDER IT. It tastes like puke. I’m not kidding! The cheese is so strong it is horrible (and we both like blue cheese!) We notified the waitress as she could see we weren’t enjoying the food. She agreed with us and said that other customers had thought the same as us previously and had returned the food. We asked to do the same as we were really struggling to eat it. She came back out and told us that the chef did not agree! The fact that she had agreed with us and told us that other customers had told her the same thing before meant that we weren’t the only ones with a problem! We did eventually end up with a refund for the burgers but it wasn’t without a fight! The other burgers there might be lovely but we left with a sour (and pukey!) taste in our mouths unfortunately. There are plenty of other restaurants around the marina to try though instead!
- We cheered ourselves up by buying some mini pancakes on the way back to take to the boat which were delicious!
- Check out our YouTube video for a panorama of the marina (it was big!!)
- The couple we were rafted up next to were lovely and gave us a pack of Stroopwaffles to enjoy on our journey as continued south as we left the following morning.
