SOme extra points
- This was our first visit to a foreign port outside the UK – it was a very welcome stop after a long, rally passage across from Lowestoft.
- The visitors berths are on the opposite side of the marina. Turn left as you enter and follow the wall around.
- We had to learn a new style of berthing here – they have finger pontoons here but there is also a large wooden pillar to attach youself to on the opposite side at the ‘back’ of the box. (Check out our video linked below where you’ll see us exiting our berth en route to Amsterdam).
- You pay a tax per person on board on top of the boat price here.
- There is a rather nice restaurant above the marina office where you can try Kibbeling – little battered chunks of fish – it was delicious!
- I wasn’t impressed with the showers here: they were very clean but were on a countdown timer. Be prepared to have a very fast (not particularly warm) shower, or be prepared to swop shower cubicles half way through like I had to!!
- There are a number of food outlets / restaurants on site around the marina and also a small supermarket. (Think the type you get on a holiday park…expensive and not a great deal of choice).
- There are beaches nearby but no dogs allowed on them sadly. We did manage to find a small bit of sand for Scrappy to have a run on.
- Great stop en route somewhere but I wouldn’t come here to visit.
- Amsterdam not too far down the North Sea canal – the first lock is a short motor away. You are able to enter the canal without having to take down your mast.
- There is a mast up route down through Holland which begins not too far from here. (We didn’t do it as we went around the outside but our friends did and came out near Roompot further south.)
