Some extra points
- This marina is SERIOUSLY tight to get into but so worth the effort (breath in!) Watch our YouTube video to see exactly what I mean!
- There is a free ferry a five minute walk away that takes you over the canal to Amsterdam Central Station.
- You have to pay for the showers (€3) and they are timed. You can see roughly how long you have left while you are in the shower but it counts down wierdly… It took 6 (?! I think!) of the total number every few seconds so not entirely sure how that worked or how long you get. I just know it’s really not long if you have long hair and like to shampoo more than once! They were small but clean and functional.
- If you pay for the water (€0.50 a pop), don’t do what we did which was fill up someone elses water jugs before filling our own…it ran out before we’d finished topping up so we had to get more credit.
- You are given a ‘pass’ that basically looks like a credit card upon arrival. This is what you take with you to the showers and the water taps. You preload it with credit and then use it whenever you need to.
- I highly recommend downloading an app or two that give walking tours around Amsterdam. I can’t remember the one I used but I was able to get a running commentary of where I was and what was important on a guided route that I took.
- Make sure you bring good walking shoes if you visit here. I spent a few hours wandering around the city and ended up doing 20,000 steps in one afternoon!
- Make sure you don’t stray into the bike lanes when you are walking around – there are so many bikes around and they are fast.
- If you hire a bike here be prepared for an interesting way to brake (this is coming from someone that is used to brakes on the handlebars!)
- If I remember correctly, the internet here was pretty good as I made and uploaded a video to our YouTube channel during our time here.
- We didn’t end up going to the Red Light District but I’ve heard it’s very eye-opening…! We had a glimpse of what to expect wandering round the main part of the city and my eyes nearly fell out of my head! XD It was definately an OMG moment!
- There is so much choice for where to eat in Amsterdam – I couldn’t decide where to go and wanted to try them all! We ended up finding ‘Mr Meatball’ down a little side alley and having the most delicious meatball sandwich I’ve ever had in my life! FEBO is also an interesting experience and well worth a visit…! Keep your eyes open as you walk around. It’s a new style of serving fast food that I haven’t seen before.
- This is one marina I’d come back to in a heartbeat due to its location. The facilities aren’t the best I’ve experienced but where it is more than makes up for that!
- Considering the location of this marina, it is incredibly cheap! 😀
